Jean Prouvé Aluminum Panel
Jean Prouvé Aluminum Panel
Architectural ribbed grill facade element, designed by the iconic Jean Proue and manufactured by C.I.M.T. (Compagnie Industrielle du Materiel de Transport) in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, circa 1960. Originally part of the Institute National des Sciences Appliques (INSA) Doua campus building in Villeurbanne, France, this pressed aluminum and foam-filled panel was chosen for its superior technical qualities and adaptability to architectural needs.
Known for its striking ribbed design, this element seamlessly blends functionality with artistic elegance, serving as both an insulating facade and a decorative statement. When displayed on a wall, it transforms into a sculptural work of art, reflecting Prouve’s visionary approach to design.
Jean Prouve (1901-1984), a pioneer of 20th-century architecture and furniture, revolutionized the use of modern materials like aluminum and sheet steel. His dedication to rational, functional design and collaboration with leading architects cemented his legacy as a leader in post-war reconstruction and modernist innovation.
